NATO expresses concern at the situation in Mauritania
A NATO Spokesperson today expressed concern by the recent events in Mauritania and said that the Alliance continues to follow the situation closely.
The seizure of power by force is to be rejected, added the Spokesperson, who expressed the hope that there will be a quick return to democracy and the rule of law.
NATO welcomed the free and fair elections that took place in 2007. Mauritania is a member of the Mediterranean Dialogue of NATO.
