On Monday (27 January), NATO’s Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska attended the ceremony marking the 80th Anniversary of the liberation of the former Nazi concentration and extermination camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland.
Heads of State and other national and international officials gathered to honour and hear from survivors and pay tribute to the 1.1 million people who were killed in the camp between 1940 and 1945.
In 2005, the United Nations declared 27 January International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
