NATO Deputy Secretary General: “Moldova contributes to Euro-Atlantic security”
Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană met Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu of the Republic of Moldova at NATO Headquarters on Tuesday (6 June 2023). Mr. Geoană underscored NATO’s commitment to deepening its cooperation with the Republic of Moldova, with full respect for its constitutional neutrality. Mr. Geoană also welcomed Moldova’s participation at the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius.
Mr. Geoană thanked Moldova for its contribution to NATO’s peacekeeping mission in Kosovo and its efforts to promote stability at a time of heightened tensions. He also emphasised Moldova’s firm commitment to a European future, highlighting its role as the host of the European Political Community Summit in which NATO AWACS helped secure the skies over the Summit venue.
At the meeting of NATO Defence Ministers in February, Allies agreed an enhanced defence capacity building package to support the development and modernisation of Moldova’s defence and security institutions, including through cyber security, strategic communications, and training and education.
