NATO Deputy Secretary General speaks at key events in the margins of the Munich Security Conference
Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană attended a number of events during the Munich Security Conference (17-19 February 2023), focusing on the importance of innovation, the transformation of NATO Allies’ defence industries, as well as NATO’s support for Ukraine.
Mr. Geoană met and discussed with ministers, industry representatives, academics and other opinion leaders. He conveyed NATO’s messages on the importance of cooperation with the defence industry at this critical time for our security, innovation and transatlantic cooperation.
The Munich Security Conference follows the meeting of NATO Defence Ministers in Brussels where Allies discussed a wide range of security issues, including NATO’s stepped up support for Ukraine, strengthening deterrence and defence, and increasing stockpiles.
More than 150 high-level participants are taking part in the 59th edition of the Munich Security Conference, which is one of the world's leading foreign and security policy gatherings.
The Deputy Secretary General also participated in a first meeting between the NATO Innovation Board and the Munich Security Innovation Board on Friday (17 February 2023). This meeting followed the launch of NATO’s Data and AI Review Board, NATO’s new focal point to govern responsible artificial intelligence in defence and security. Participants addressed how the Data and AI Review Board can help advance the state-of-the-art in responsible innovation. As Chair of the NATO Innovation Board, the Deputy Secretary General noted the importance of engaging with younger generations to advance responsible innovation.
