Students meet with NATO leaders on future of the North Atlantic Alliance

<p>The Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA), in association with the Atlantic Council of the United States, announces the convening of the Istanbul Pan-Atlantic Student Summit (I-PASS) on June 26-30, 2004. </p>
The Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA), in association with the Atlantic Council of the United States, announces the convening of the Istanbul Pan-Atlantic Student Summit (I-PASS) on June 26-30, 2004.
I-PASS will be held in conjunction with the Istanbul NATO summit. At the conference, more than 190 university students from 37 Alliance and Partnership for Peace countries will meet with Alliance leaders to discuss the future of NATO and the challenges facing the transatlantic partnership. Confirmed speakers include Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The student summit will also expose the next generation of leaders to challenges they may face through a model NATO simulation focusing on NATO’s out-of-area operations. I-PASS is organized in cooperation with the Public Diplomacy Division of NATO headquarters.
I-PASS participants will be available for interviews in English or their native languages on Monday, June 28 from 9.30 to 10.00 at the Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Center (ICEC) following their meetings with Alliance and Partner leaders [schedule subject to change]. Journalists must have NATO accreditation. Student commentary before and after the summit can be arranged by contacting the Atlantic Council of the United States.
