Visit of King Abdullah II of Jordan

King Abdullah II of Jordan held bilateral meetings with Lord Robertson on 11 June, during what was his second visit to NATO HQ in the past three years. They exchanged views on NATO's current agenda and discussed Jordan's participation in the Mediterranean Dialogue.
Among the issues discussed were those to be raised at the upcoming Summit in Prague, which include terrorism, defence capabilities, enlargement, NATO-Russia relations and NATO-EU relations. They also discussed the reinforcement of the political and practical dimensions of NATO's Mediterranean Dialogue, decided at the meeting of Foreign Ministers in Reykjavik, 14-15 May 2002. One of the implications of this decision will be that NATO will consult bilaterally with Mediterranean Dialogue countries on security matters of common concern, including terrorism.
Jordan joined NATO's Mediterranean Dialogue in 1995, together with Egypt, Israel, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia. Algeria joined in March 2000.
