General

An extraordinary virtual meeting of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) at the level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs will be held via VTC on Friday 7 January 2022. NATO Foreign Ministers will discuss Russia’s military build-up in and around Ukraine and broader European security issues.

The meeting will be chaired by the NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg.

Program

The meeting will start on 7 January 2022 at 14h00. The Secretary General is expected to brief the press after the meeting at +17:15 (TBC).

Media Accreditation

Attendance in person:

  1. NATO will allow a limited number of media representatives to cover the event in person.
  2. All media representatives wishing to cover the meetings in person (including those with an annual accreditation with NATO) will need to register by writing to NATOAccreditations@hq.nato.int (please use as subject line: 7 Jan – ATTENDANCE IN PERSON)
  3. The deadline to register for attendance in person is no later than Wednesday 5 January 2022 at 23:59 (Brussels Time).
  4. NATO strongly recommends media organisations to plan for a minimal physical presence. It is unlikely that all accreditation requests will be accepted.
  5. NATO will confirm the accreditation explicitly by email.

NATO will also facilitate remote coverage/interaction:

  1. NATO is offering journalists the option to ask questions remotely via Zoom to the NATO Secretary General during his press conference. Journalists wishing to do so need to register until Friday 7 January 2022 at 11:00 (Brussels Time) by writing to NATOAccreditations@hq.nato.int (please use as subject line: 7 Jan – ATTENDANCE VIA ZOOM)
  2. Media will be contacted separately for technical details. While every effort will be made to accommodate as many questions as possible, time limitations might not allow all questions to be asked.

Broadcast / Pools

Public events / Secretary General’s press conference will be streamed live and on the internal closed-circuit television system; footage will be available live via satellite and shared via the NATO Multimedia portal https://www.natomultimedia.tv . The events will be available in original sound, English, French and Russian.

The public opening remarks will be covered by a small media pool, by invitation only.

A transcript of the Secretary General’s remarks, as well as pictures taken by NATO photographers, will be available on the NATO website.

 Access to NATO HQ

Accredited media will be able to enter the NATO HQ premises as of 13:00.

Physical access to NATO HQ will be granted only if one of the conditions below is met (as also outlined here):

  • Possess a vaccination certificate proving that they are fully vaccinated since 14 days before entering NATO HQ premises; 
  • Bring a certificate stating post-COVID recovery (not more than 180 days);
  • Present a valid PCR test (done within 72 hours).
