Parliamentarians focus on NATO-Ukraine relations

Progress made in NATO-Ukraine cooperation was assessed by a joint parliamentary monitoring group at NATO HQ, 2-3 November.

Representatives from the Rada (the Ukrainian Parliament), the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA) and NATO's international civilian and military staffs gathered to discuss NATO-Ukraine cooperation initiated under the "Charter for a Distinctive Partnership Between NATO and Ukraine" signed in 1997. The NATO-PA - Ukrainian Parliament Joint Monitoring Group covered cooperation within NATO's Partnership for Peace programme -including work achieved in defence reform- and in military, economic, information and civil emergency planning matters.

The role of this joint parliamentary group is to assess work achieved under the Charter, articulate views on the areas in which cooperation is conducted and propose new initiatives.
