Joint crisis management exercise a success

The first joint crisis management exercise to have taken place between NATO and the Western European Union (WEU) ended on 23 February. During one week, participants from both organisations were able to test the crisis management mechanisms and the consultation arrangements they had put together over the last few years. The scenario of the exercise was based on a peace support mission in which the WEU led an operation using NATO assets and capabilities.
After a meeting held on 21 February between NATO and the WEU Councils -their highest decision-making bodies- Lord Robertson stated that CMX/CRISEX 2000 had been going very smoothly and that the lessons learned will be examined so as to draw from this experience for real life situations.
