Allies discuss NATO’s support for Afghanistan and Iraq
On Friday (23 October 2020), Allied Defence Ministers discussed NATO’s missions in Afghanistan and Iraq. Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO has adjusted its presence in Afghanistan to support the Afghan peace process and that the Taliban must reduce the unacceptable levels of violence. Ministers also agreed to expand NATO’s training mission in Iraq to help the Iraqi forces fight terrorism and stabilise their country.
