NATO Secretary General and President of Boeing International mark NATO’s AWACS fleet modernisation

On Wednesday, 27 November 2019, NATO and the Boeing Company will mark the signing of a $1 billion contract to modernise the Alliance’s fleet of AWACS aircraft. This will ensure that NATO AWACS continue to support the Alliance’s missions to 2035.

The ceremony, which will take place at Melsbroek Airport, Brussels, will be presided over by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Sir Michael Arthur, President of Boeing International.

The event is open to press. Interested media are invited to apply for accreditation (see procedure below). NATO will provide transport for media representatives to and from Melsbroek Airport.

Media Advisory

±14:35   Signing ceremony followed by a joint press point with the Secretary General and the President of Boeing International  (departure of the media pool from the NATO HQ bus parking area - entrance Leopold III to Melsbroek Airport is at 12:30)

Media will be given a tour onboard an AWACS aircraft and they will be briefed on NATO capabilities and AWACS modernisation programme by NATO and NAPMA representatives.

The press point will be streamed live on the NATO website.

Accreditation

Media permanently accredited at NATO

  • All media representatives wishing to attend the event are invited to request ad-hoc accreditation to the NATO Accreditation Office to NatoAccreditations@hq.nato.int no later than Tuesday 26 November 2019 at 12:00 (Brussels time).
  • Due to limited space for media, the accreditation will be granted only to a media pool, on a first come first served basis.
  • Please note that given the processing time required for these checks, we cannot guarantee access. Either way, you will receive a confirmation by email.
  • Please type “MEL” in the subject line of the message to ensure that your request is processed

Security Procedures

A security check will take place and all equipment and personal effects carried onto the site will be examined by security personnel at Melsbroek Airport.
