Future Emirati diplomats visit NATO

The Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA) visited NATO Headquarters on 20 February to meet with NATO civilian and military officials.

Ambassador Alejandro Alvargonzález, Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy gave the group an overview of the political landscape in which NATO operates and the current priorities on NATO’s agenda.

Discussions centered on the partnership with Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) partners and Mediterranean Dialogues (MD) partners, NATO’s approach to the South, and NATO’s missions and operations.

The students - future diplomats - were accompanied by the EDA Director General, Ambassador Bernardino León, the former United Nations Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.

During their stay in Brussels, the group also visited the European Union institutions, the Egmont Group and the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
