NATO Deputy Secretary General begins visit to Turkey
NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller began a two-day visit to Turkey on Monday (22 January 2018) with a visit to the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in Ankara. Signing a book of commemoration, Ms. Gottemoeller expressed “great respect and admiration” both for the founder of the Republic of Turkey and for the nation, which she called “a key NATO Ally”.
Later on Monday, Ms Gottemoeller is meeting with the Deputy Foreign Minister, Ambassador Ahmet Yildiz; General Ümit Dündar, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, and other high-level officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence. She will also visit the NATO Centre of Excellence for Defence against Terrorism, and receive briefings on its work.
In Istanbul on Tuesday, the Deputy Secretary General will visit the 3rd Army Corps and Multinational Joint Warfare Centre Command, and conclude her visit by delivering remarks at the National Defence University.
