NATO Deputy Secretary General discusses deterrence and dialogue at OSCE Ministerial Council

NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller outlined NATO’s dual-track approach to security in a keynote address at the OSCE Ministerial Council in Vienna on Thursday (7 December 2017). Participating in a discussion on global challenges, Ms. Gottemoeller stressed the importance of strong deterrence and dialogue in providing for peace and stability.

The Deputy Secretary General highlighted that NATO Allies attach great importance to the role of the OSCE in fostering dialogue, building trust and upholding the rules-based international order. “Trust is key,” she stressed. Ms. Gottemoeller also praised the OSCE’s Structured Dialogue initiative, which serves as a forum for discussing threats, as well as challenges to European security.
