Today, General John F. Campbell assumed command of ISAF from General Joseph F. Dunford. I wish him every success and I look forward to working closely with him.

General Campbell is taking up his post at an important time for Afghanistan and for our ISAF mission. The Afghan security forces are leading all security operations. By the end of this year they will have full security responsibility to protect the Afghan population. I am confident that General Campbell will lead ISAF through an orderly completion at the end of this year and guide our efforts to continue to support the Afghan Security Forces, once the required legal framework is in place.

I also thank General Dunford for his invaluable service and for the outstanding contribution he has made to our mission.

Throughout his time in command, General Dunford has demonstrated exemplary leadership.  I am confident that he will bring the same remarkable skills and commitment to his new role as Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps.
