NATO membership continues to act as a strong incentive for aspirant nations, NATO Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Alexander Vershbow told a conference hosted by the Royal Danish Defence College in Copenhagen on 10 April (2014). The Alliance’s expansion over the past decade and a half has helped to spread freedom, democracy and stability across Europe, the Ambassador said. The conference focused on defence cooperation between Denmark and Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, 10 years after the three Baltic states joined NATO.
