NATO experts discuss nuclear deterrence challenges in Helsinki

NATO’s annual Nuclear Policy Symposium kicked off in Helsinki, Finland, on Tuesday (29 April 2025). Held annually since 1992, it is the Alliance’s main nuclear policy event. The symposium brings together outside experts as well as NATO and Allied senior officials to discuss pressing nuclear challenges facing the Alliance.

Secretary General welcomes German Federal President to NATO to mark 70 years of Germany’s membership in the Alliance

On Monday (28 April 2025), NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte welcomed the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier to NATO to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Federal Republic of Germany's accession to NATO. Mr Steinmeier was accompanied by the Acting Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius.

NATO Military Committee visits Sweden

From 26 to 28 March, the NATO Military Committee visited the Island of Gotland and Luleå in Sweden, on an invitation by the Swedish Chief of Defence, General Michael Claesson. This was the first visit of the Military Committee to Sweden, since the country became the 32nd member of the NATO Alliance, in March 2024.

NATO Aviation Committee meets in New Zealand to discuss future cooperation on air activities

The NATO Aviation Committee was hosted by the Royal New Zealand Air Force in Christchurch, on 18-20 March 2025. This was the first time a NATO senior policy level committee met in the Indo-Pacific region, and a demonstration of NATO's commitment to boosting cooperation with its four Indo-Pacific partners (Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and the Republic of Korea).

NATO launches the Resilience Reference Curriculum

At a meeting of its Resilience Committee on 14 February 2025, NATO introduced its first Resilience Reference Curriculum (RRC) to support efforts by NATO Allies and partners to strengthen their resilience against military and non-military threats and challenges to the Alliance’s security and to their own national security. These can include natural disasters, disruption of critical infrastructure, or hybrid or armed attacks.
