Allies agree NATO’s 2025-2029 Common Funding Resource Plan

On Wednesday 17 July, the North Atlantic Council approved the 2025-2029 Common Funding Resource Plan (CFRP). The gravely altered security environment since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 has led NATO to reset the strategic direction of the Alliance, and these decisions have direct resource implications for NATO common funding. The 2025-2029 CFRP gives an overview of the common-funded resource demands over the next five years, confirming the medium-term feasibility and affordability of previously endorsed and future common-funded programmes and requirements.

NATO and the Republic of Korea sign airworthiness agreement

On Thursday (11 July 2024), NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met with the President of the Republic of Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol at NATO’s 75th anniversary Summit in Washington DC. They signed an agreement on mutual recognition for military airworthiness certification which ensures the safety and airworthiness of all air assets used by NATO Allied countries and partners. This marks NATO’s first such deal with an Asian country.

NATO Secretary General welcomes President Zelenskyy to the Washington Summit, saying “Ukraine’s future is in NATO”

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed President Zelenskyy to a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council at the Washington Summit on Thursday (11 July 2024). He underlined NATO’s “robust package of practical support for Ukraine, including a pledge of long-term security assistance” agreed on Wednesday (10 July 2024). “Today, we will take further decisions together with Ukraine, making clear that NATO’s support is built to last, and affirming that Ukraine’s future is in NATO,” he added.

NATO Secretary General arrives at historic Washington Summit
