NATO Deputy Secretary General meets Colombian Defence Minister

On Wednesday (27 September 2023), NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană met Colombian Defence Minister Iván Velásquez Gómez at the NATO Headquarters. The Deputy Secretary General underlined the importance of NATO’s partnership with Colombia and the unique perspective that Colombia brings as NATO’s partner in Latin America.

NATO hosts Colombian War College visit

On 8th September 2023, the NATO International Military Staff, under the auspices of its Cooperative Security Division, welcomed a group of students from the Colombian War College, to the NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. The group received a series of briefings to enhance their understanding of NATO, its role and responsibilities, especially in light of the current security environment and the outcomes of the recent Summit in Vilnius.

NATO’s Partnership Training and Education Centres commit to supporting Ukraine

NATO’s Partnership Training and Education Centres community will support Ukraine in its military education needs, including on cyber defence, energy security, demining and English language training. This was agreed at the 22nd Annual Partnership Training and Education Centres (PTECs) Conference of Commandants, which took place in Bogota, Colombia.

NATO military officials hold staff-to-staff talks in Colombia

From 11 to 14 July 2022, representatives from the NATO International Military Staff (IMS) Cooperative Security division, SHAPE and NATO’s Land and Air Commands attended staff-to-staff talks with Colombian military officials in Bogotá. Discussions focused on the NATO-Colombia military cooperation, including participation in training, exercises and NATO courses as well as maritime security. The delegation also visited the Naval Base ARC Bolívar in Cartagena.

On 2-6 May 2022, NATO staff visited Colombia to discuss prospects of enhanced cooperation between NATO and Colombia, notably in the domain of defence education, within the framework of NATO Defence Education Enhancement Programme.

NATO and Colombia agree on a new partnership

Today (8 December 2021) NATO Deputy Secretary General, Mr Mircea Geoană, met with the Defence Minister of Colombia, Mr Diego Andrés Molano, to launch a new partnership programme. Colombia became NATO's newest partner in 2017, and the first in Latin America. As part of this partnership, NATO supports Colombia in its continuing efforts to develop its armed forces, while Colombia provides demining training to NATO Allies and other partner countries.

NATO International Military Staff welcomes Colombian delegation to NATO

On the 28th of October 2021, the NATO International Military Staff’s Cooperative Security Division hosted a delegation of Colombian military officials for a day of for inter-staff talks at the NATO Headquarters. Colombia has been a NATO Partner since 2017 and this is the first military-to-military meeting held in Brussels.

NATO and Colombia conduct high-level staff talks, reaffirm commitment to partnership

NATO and Colombia reaffirmed their commitment to mutually beneficial partnership during High Level Staff Talks in Colombia, which ended on Saturday (2 October 2021). The two sides committed to deepening political dialogue and intensifying practical cooperation on good governance, military training, interoperability, demining, and maritime security.
