The group was briefed by the NATO International Military Staff on the role of NATO as a security provider and on practical cooperation with Colombia, in light of the outcomes of Washington Summit. | |
23 May. 2024 | From 19 until 23 May 2024, Chair of the NATO Military Committee Admiral Rob Bauer visited Colombia upon the invitation of its Chief of Defence General Helder Fernan Giraldo Bonilla. Goal of the visit was to discuss the military cooperation between NATO and Colombia. This cooperation started in 2015 and intensified in 2017 when Colombia became a Global Partner for NATO. In 2021, Colombia became the first Partner to sign a NATO Individual Tailored Partnerships Programme. Today, the cooperation covers a wide range of issues, including cyber security, terrorism, the fight against corruption and maritime security. The NATO delegation was accompanies throughout the visit by the Colombian Ambassador to Belgium, Mr Jose Rojas Rodriguez, who is geared to be the new Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. | |

The Deputy Secretary General underlined the importance of NATO’s partnership with Colombia and the unique perspective that Colombia brings as NATO’s partner in Latin America. |

NATO’s Partnership Training and Education Centres commit to supporting Ukraine NATO’s Partnership Training and Education Centres community will support Ukraine in its military education needs, including on cyber defence, energy security, demining and English language training. This was agreed at the 22nd Annual Partnership Training and Education Centres (PTECs) Conference of Commandants, which took place in Bogota, Colombia. |

NATO military officials hold staff-to-staff talks in Colombia From 11 to 14 July 2022, representatives from the NATO International Military Staff (IMS) Cooperative Security division, SHAPE and NATO’s Land and Air Commands attended staff-to-staff talks with Colombian military officials in Bogotá. Discussions focused on the NATO-Colombia military cooperation, including participation in training, exercises and NATO courses as well as maritime security. The delegation also visited the Naval Base ARC Bolívar in Cartagena. |
