Chair of the NATO Military Committee visits Belgium

From 6 to 7 May 2024, the Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, paid an official visit to Belgium. He was received by Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hadja Lahbib, Minister of Defence Ludivine Dedonder, and Chief of Defence Admiral Michel Hofman. The Chair was also hosted by the Standing Committee for Defence of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives. And he visited Florennes Air Base where Belgium is creating state of the art infrastructure for the F-35 fighter aircraft and the MQ-9B Sky Guardian. This is a key part of the modernisation of the Belgian Armed Forces.

The 48th Annual Conference for the NATO Committee on Gender Perspectives focused on “Military Planning and Partnerships: A New Era of Gender Perspective at NATO”

From 6 to 8 May 2024, over 300 participants across 47 Allied and Partner Nations attended the 48th Annual Conference for the NATO Committee on Gender Perspectives (NCGP) online and in-person at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. This year’s theme was “Military Planning and Partnerships: A New Era of Gender Perspective at NATO”.

Secretary General visits Italy, welcomes contributions to NATO and support for Ukraine

Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome on Wednesday (8 May 2024) to discuss preparations for the Washington Summit, including work to further strengthen NATO, achieve fairer burden-sharing, and provide more support to Ukraine.

Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană underlined the importance of NATO’s southern neighbourhood at an event hosted by the German Marshall Fund in Brussels on Tuesday (7 May 2024). What happens in the region directly affects the security of the Euro-Atlantic region, he stressed.
