Allied Chiefs of Defence meet with NATO Secretary General

Today, 16 May 2024, NATO’s highest Military Authority, the Military Committee, meets in Chiefs of Defence format at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. The meeting will focus on strengthening the executability of the Alliance’s new defence plans and warfighting transformation to ensure Allies are fully prepared to face current and future threats.

On 14 May 2024, NATO hosted military staff talks with the Republic of Korea, at NATO HQ in Brussels. Discussions focused on the ongoing partnership, resilience building and future opportunities for cooperation. The meeting took place under the auspices of the NATO Cooperative Security Division.

Future of NATO-Gulf relations discussed in Kuwait

As part of the resumption of events at the NATO-Istanbul Cooperation Initiative Regional Centre in Kuwait (NIRC), a “NATO talk” was held on Monday (13 May 2024) to address the future of NATO relations in the region. “Twenty years of the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative: What is the way forward for NATO-Gulf relations?” covered the importance of NATO partnerships and the changing security environment in the region.

From 29th of April to 8th May, NATO’s largest series of military medical exercises took place in Bakonykúti Training Area, Hungary. It included 1600 military medical experts, from 27 Allies and a number of partner nations.

Chair of the NATO Military Committee visits Belgium

From 6 to 7 May 2024, the Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, paid an official visit to Belgium. He was received by Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hadja Lahbib, Minister of Defence Ludivine Dedonder, and Chief of Defence Admiral Michel Hofman. The Chair was also hosted by the Standing Committee for Defence of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives. And he visited Florennes Air Base where Belgium is creating state of the art infrastructure for the F-35 fighter aircraft and the MQ-9B Sky Guardian. This is a key part of the modernisation of the Belgian Armed Forces.
