Opening remarks
by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the North Atlantic Council meeting in Defence Ministers' session
(As delivered)
Good afternoon.
And welcome to all of you.
This session will focus on Iraq and what more NATO can do to address the security situation in the Middle East and in North Africa.
NATO already plays a key role in the fight against terrorism with our training mission in Iraq, and as a member of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS.
We also work with our other partners like Jordan and Tunisia to boost their ability to fight terrorism.
But NATO has the potential to do more.
To preserve the remarkable gains we have made in defeating ISIS.
To ensure that ISIS does not return.
And to help build stability across the wider Middle East and North Africa.
This concludes the public part of the meeting. And I thank the media for joining us at the beginning of this meeting. And we will continue in just a moment.
