Opening remarks
by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the meeting of the North Atlantic Council with Resolute Support Operational Partner Nations and Potential Operational Partner Nations
(As delivered)
So dear friends, I think we are ready to start. Good afternoon and welcome to this meeting.
In this last session of our Ministerial meeting, we will discuss our engagement in Afghanistan.
Together with our Operational Partners in the Resolute Support Mission.
And the Afghan Defence Minister.
Our mission in Afghanistan remains a top priority.
And our commitment to ensuring the long-term security and stability of the country is steadfast.
US-led efforts are underway to find a negotiated, peaceful solution to the war in Afghanistan.
There is a unique opportunity for peace.
We strongly support Ambassador Khalilzad’s efforts.
And we will continue to provide the training and financial assistance needed to create the conditions for a peaceful, negotiated solution in Afghanistan.
This concludes the public part of the meeting. And I thank the media for being with us at the start of the meeting and we’ll continue in a moment.
