Opening remarks
by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission at the level of Defence Ministers
(As delivered)
So good morning to all of you, it’s good to see you again. And then we are ready to start. And welcome to this meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission.
This is a timely meeting.
We will discuss the current security situation in Ukraine, the progress made in the implementation of defence reforms, and NATO’s support. And we will pave the way for our meeting with President Poroshenko at the Warsaw Summit.
NATO remains firm in our support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
We will continue to assist Ukraine to improve its ability to defend itself.
The transformation of Ukraine’s armed forces while the nation is engaged in conflict in the east is a daunting task.
But we have seen some good progress in developing the necessary framework for reforms in the defence and security sector. And it is important to move forward with reforms. For the stability of Ukraine. And the security of Europe.
Let me now conclude this public part of the meeting. And thank the media for joining us this morning and then we will soon continue.
