Statement by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg after his meeting with US President Barack Obama
Just finished an excellent meeting with President Barack Obama. And I thanked him for his strong personal commitment to transatlantic security and also for the strong contribution by United States to our Alliance, to NATO and to the transatlantic security.
And wherever I travel, I meet US servicemen and women. And they send the same clear message that America stands with Europe. Europe and America stand together. And NATO will defend and protect all Allies against any threat.
And the Europeans are also stepping up. They are taking the responsibility for the new very High Readiness Spearhead Force we are establishing in NATO. And NATO is adapting to a new security environment by implementing the biggest reinforcement of our collective defence since the end of the Cold War. And of course, the United States plays a crucial role in providing the resources together with the Europeans, but also of course showing the leadership. And I thanked the President for his strong personal commitment; but also for the leadership United States is showing in a critical time like this.
