NATO Secretary General takes part in B9 Summit

Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg attended the Bucharest Nine (B9) Summit by video teleconference on Friday (10 June 2022), to prepare for the NATO Summit in Madrid at the end of this month. The B9 format, established at the initiative of Polish President Duda and Romanian President Iohannis in the aftermath of Russia’s first invasion of Ukraine in 2014, includes NATO Allies Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, and its summit is currently taking place in Bucharest.

NATO Deputy Secretary General participates in meeting of B9 countries

On Thursday (31 March 2022), NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană participated in a Foreign Ministers meeting of the Bucharest 9 Initiative, which includes Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. The meeting took place in Bratislava, Slovakia, where the Deputy Secretary General also met with Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia, Ivan Korčok, and Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasian Affairs of the United States, Dr Karen Donfried.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkey on Friday (11 March 2022), commending him for Turkey’s contributions to NATO’s collective deterrence and defence. He also welcomed Turkey’s efforts to mediate between Moscow and Kyiv, and its deliveries of assistance to Ukraine as it resists the Russian invasion.

Hungarian Forces ready for NATO reinforcements in the East

On Wednesday (23 February), NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), General Tod. D. Wolters, vetted Hungarian forces for possible support to NATO’s enhanced defence in the Eastern flank of the Alliance. NATO Allies boost support to Ukraine

NATO Allies are boosting their political and practical support to Ukraine as it continues to defend itself against Russia’s full-scale invasion. Thousands of anti-tank weapons, hundreds of air-defence missiles and thousands of small arms and ammunition stocks are being sent to Ukraine. Allies are also providing millions of euros worth of financial assistance and humanitarian aid, including medical supplies to help Ukrainian forces.
