The Mitterrand Door
A short while before the 1988 NATO Summit in Brussels, the security services of French President François Mitterrand contacted the Organization to have an emergency exit installed in the Brosio Room, where one of the meetings was scheduled.
NATO’s construction services had to scramble to complete the work, because the French President would only attend the Summit if this request was accepted.
Today this door is informally known to NATO staff as the “Mitterrand Door”.
