Strengthening NATO-Ukrainian parliamentary cooperation
Parliamentarians from NATO member and partner countries together with Ukraine discussed ways of strengthening ties and co-operation at a meeting held at NATO Headquarters from 3-4 March 2003.

NATO supporting Turkey in civil emergency planning
Following the deployment of surveillance aircraft and missile defences, NATO is also assisting Turkey in preparing for possible humanitarian emergencies, such as a mass influx of refugees or chemical and biological attacks against civilians.

NATO escorts shipping in Gibraltar
This week NATO warships have taken on a new mission to escort Allied civilian ships through the Straits of Gibraltar. The Alliance decided to expand its naval operations in response to recent assessments of terrorist threats to particular shipping lanes.

NATO support to Turkey
The Commander in Chief Allied Forces Southern Europe (CINCSOUTH) Admiral Gregory G Johnson, US Navy, has assumed control of the three Dutch batteries of Patriot ground-based, air defence missile systems, which have deployed to Diyarbakir and Batman, South Eastern Turkey.

SFOR Operations in the vicinity of Pale and Lukavica
At 1030 this morning, SFOR personnel commenced operations in the vicinity of Pale and Lukavica. These operations are being conducted in support of the Office of the High Representative efforts to disrupt the activities of Momcilo Mandic and Milovan Bjelica who are providing financial assistance to Radovan Karadzic and other Persons Indicted for War Crimes.

NATO begins escorting Allied shipping through Gibraltar
On 10 March, NATO maritime forces began escorting civilian shipping from NATO member countries through the Straits of Gibraltar, as part of the Alliance’s continuing support for the campaign against terrorism.

Seven invitees participate in C3 Board meeting
In order to provide the seven invited countries with a general overview of the command, control and consultation (C3) aspects of accession and help them prepare for membership, representatives from these countries were invited to a C3 Board meeting on 14 March.

NATO-EU cooperation taken to a new level
The formal hand-over of NATO's mission in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (1) to the EU will take place on 31 March, when Operation Allied Harmony officially terminates. The hand-over to the EU is in full agreement with the authorities in Skopje.

Ukraine Prime Minister visits NATO
The newly appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine, Victor Yanukovich, visited NATO Headquarters for the first time on 18 March to discuss NATO-Ukraine co-operation with Secretary General Lord Robertson.

Workshop on detection of explosives in anti-terrorism
A workshop on the "Detection of Explosives for Anti-Terrorism Purposes" took place in Moscow on 19-20 March. It provided an opportunity for researchers from East and West to share their experiences and learn about different approaches to research and planning in order to advance future investigations in the field of vapour and trace detection of explosives.

Round Table on Prevention and Mitigation of Societal Disruption

Exercise Cooperative Jaguar 2003

President of Tajikistan visits NATO

Accession protocols signed
Representatives of the 19 NATO member countries signed on 26 March Protocols of Accession, which once ratified by the Allies, will allow seven new states to join NATO.

A ceremony held in Skopje today marked the end of NATO’s peacekeeping mission in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia(1) and its handover to the European Union.

During a visit to Zagreb on 31 March NATO Secretary General Lord Robertson said NATO’s door remains open and encouraged Croatia to carry on with key reforms.
