Under the aegis of the NATO Air Defence Committee, a first joint
exercise is held at Kayseri airbase in Turkey, involving the strategic
loading of a NATO mobile air defence radar by a Russian Illuyshin
76 heavy transport aircraft. The exercise is in preparation for
potential cooperation in combined peace support operations.

the North Atlantic Council. At a meeting of the NATO-Russia Permanent
Joint Council, Ambassadors discuss the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina
and in Kosovo. NATO and Russia support the aims of securing a political
solution to the crisis in Kosovo based on strict compliance with
UNSCR 1160 and 1199.

air operations subject to decision and assessments by the Council
and maintenance of the ACTORD for a phased air campaign; and calling
for equal compliance with UNSC Resolutions by the Kosovar Albanians.
