On 2 August 2002, Admiral Sir Jonathon Band (United Kingdom) took
over command of NATO's Eastern Atlantic Headquarters in Northwood,
United Kingdom. He replaced Admiral Sir Alan West, who held the
post since 2000.

A major weapons cache was discovered and secured on 26 August in
Kosovo by NATO-led peacekeepers working together with Kosovo and
United Nations police officers.

organised a course covering the fundamental aspects of international
rescue operations for all types of disaster situations, from 26

Statement by Secretary General
on the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (1)

The recent kidnapping of a group of citizens in the former Yugoslav
Republic of Macedonia (1) is a deplorable
act of violence that undermines the efforts of all those who are
working for long-term stability in the country. Provocations must
stop. I urge the perpetrators to release the victims immediately
and unconditionally. I call on the population to remain calm and
resist any calls for retaliation and appeal for restraint from the
authorities.

over Norway, involving air forces from Belgium, Canada, France,
