Weapons cache seized in Kosovo

A major weapons cache was discovered and secured on 26 August in Kosovo by NATO-led peacekeepers working together with Kosovo and United Nations police officers.

The site, located near the border with the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia1, contained over 800 grenades, 11 mortar rounds and other munitions.

"Our combined efforts made for a safe and orderly recovery of a large volume of munitions that could have been used to jeopardize our progress toward a safe and secure environment in Kosovo," said Lt. Col. Vanderlinden, Commander in the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR).

KFOR is mandated to maintain a secure environment in Kosovo, including recovering and securing illegal arms and weapons.
