Deputy Secretary General discusses NATO’s evolving role in global stability
NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană discussed how NATO is adapting to a more dangerous and competitive world at a speech in Prague on 28 March 2022.
“We are at the historical turning point where we face a more fundamental struggle for our values and our way of life. Freedom over oppression, democracy over autocracy, and the rule of law over the rule of brute force. We must adapt to this new global reality, and we are,” Mr Geoană said.
The Deputy Secretary General outlined NATO’s swift and unified response to Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, and the measures the Alliance is taking to support its partners and strengthen its posture in a more dangerous and competitive world.
Mr Geoană was speaking at an event co-hosted by the Czech Republic, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, France and Norway. This was the last of four seminars hosted by Allies on NATO’s next Strategic Concept, which will be adopted by Allied leaders at the Madrid Summit in June.
