Balakliya returns to normal life
As of 6 April 2017, Ukrainian explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) teams have cleared the territory of Balakliya town and 9 settlements in the vicinity. The contaminated area in and around Balakliya was reduced from 10 km to 1 km.
The electricity infrastructure has been restored in Balakliya and works to repair the gas supply infrastructure continue.
A total of 727 personnel and 133 vehicles, including EOD units from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, have been engaged in the emergency response.
NATO (through the Science for Peace and Security Programme), Romania, Poland and Slovakia offered or provided assistance to Ukraine.
