Afghans lead civil assistance in Helmand Province

On 9 February, Ambassador Mark Sedwill, NATO’s Senior Civilian Representative (SCR) in Afghanistan, met with the Governor of Afghanistan’s Helmand Province, Mohammad Gulab Mangal, and members of the media today to show NATO’s support for the Afghan-led civil assistance effort in the Marjah region of Central Helmand, where joint military operations are planned.

From 9 to 12 February 2010, the Group of Experts on the NATO Strategic Concept will visit Moscow at the invitation of the Russian Federation. As part of the reflection period, the group, under the leadership of Dr. Madeleine Albright, former US Secretary of State, will participate in discussions with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and Secretary of the National Security Council, Nikolay Patrushev and will meet with the members of the Duma, the Lower House of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
