Summary

On 14 May 1955, the Soviet Union concludes the Warsaw Treaty with Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland and Romania, and in December signs a treaty with the regime in East Germany transforming it into a State.

The Federal Republic of Germany becomes a member of NATO.
