Snowfall and floods in Albania

Due to heavy rainfalls that started on the 31st of January 2015, the water level of large rivers has increased and caused floods in several parts of Albania.

Due to continuous heavy rainfalls beginning from 31 January 2015 the water level of many large water sources throughout the country (Vjosa River, Drino River, Osumi River, Gjanica River as well as the Hydropower Plants) has increased and it has caused floods in various parts of Albania. The situation is most alarming in the southwest part of the country, in the regions of Gjirokastra, Fier, Vlore, Berat, and Elbasan. Currently, over 600 families have been evacuated from the flooded regions and approximately 1000 families are suffering from damaged households. In accordance with the procedures at reference, NATO has received on 05 February 2015, a disaster assistance request from Albania (AL).
