New Seminar on Strategic Concept
The discussion on the new Strategic Concept of NATO is entering a more intensive phase. On 16th October, 2009 a high level seminar addressing fundamental security tasks of the Alliance will take place in Luxembourg.
Hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg the event will bring together members of the Group of Experts appointed by the Secretary General, government officials, military representatives and many other opinion leaders. The programme of this seminar (see attachment) will consist of a series of discussions centred on such themes as a changing security environment, core tasks of NATO, the Alliance’s political role and its strategy in the 21st century.
The seminar will be presided over by the Hon. Madeleine K. Albright. On behalf of NATO, the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero will address the seminar with H.E. Jean Asselborn, the Foreign Minister of Luxembourg and H.E. Jean-Marie Halsdorf, the Defence Minister of Luxembourg providing, respectively, welcome and closing remarks to participants.
