Joint NATO-Russia initiatives to combat terrorism

"Today, senior-level representatives of NATO Allies and Russia met again to take stock of their cooperative efforts and to reiterate their determination to intensify further their common struggle against the terrorist threat." NATO Allies and the Federation of Russia reiterated their commitment to strengthen their cooperation in combating terrorism in a press statement that was released after a meeting of the NATO-Russia Permanent Joint Council on 28 January.

The meeting took stock of the joint initiatives that had been taken so far by NATO and Russia in combating terrorism, which include the exchange of information, regular consultations and cooperation in the field of civil emergency planning. The meeting was also an opportunity to explore other means of cooperation in this field. As part of these joint efforts, a NATO-Russia conference on the role of the Military in combating terrorism is being held on 4 February at the NATO Defense College in Rome.
