Youth forum promotes dialogue and cooperation
NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division (PDD) supports the second second Greek-Turkish Youth Initiative and South/East Forum, organized by the Turkish Euro-Atlantic Youth Committee (YATATURK) on 12-13 December 2008 in Istanbul.
As a follow-up to the first Greek-Turkish Youth Forum held in Athens on 2-3 December 2007, this second forum has been enlarged to youths from other South East European countries, while keeping a bilateral Turkish-Greek format the last day.
The forum aimed at boosting dialogue and cooperation among the youth in Turkey, Greece and the wider Balkan region, while raising public awareness on the new security environment.
It brought together around 60 university students and young professionals from Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia*, Greece, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Turkey. Most of these participants arrived in Istanbul on the GLOBSEC Express train, another NATO PDD-sponsored event.
During the three-day event, participants discussed issues such as the current security challenges in South East Europe and regional cooperation, as well as NATO’s agenda in the run-up to the Alliance 60th Anniversary Summit in April 2009.
