NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer travelled to Copenhagen on 30 April to discuss key points on the agenda of the upcoming summit in Istanbul with Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, including the preparation of an enhanced package against terrorism.

They also talked about the Alliance's missions in the Balkans and Afghanistan to which Denmark contributes. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer thanked the Prime Minister for the additional forces that had recently been sent to Kosovo, as well as for Denmark's current contributions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Afghanistan.

Jaap de Hoop Scheffer also met the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Per Stig Mǿller, as well as the new Defence Minister, Soeren Gade, who was appointed on 24 April. He received an update on Denmark's ongoing defence reform and discussed the need to continue developing capabilities.

In addition, the Secretary General was received by the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince Consort at the Fredensberg Palace. He also went to the Folketinget (Danish Parliament) where he met members of the Parliamentary Foreign Policy and Defence Committees and parliamentarians involved in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
