NATO Military
Committee holds annual meeting
|
|
The Military Committee, NATO's highest military authority, has
held a series of four meetings at NATO HQ, Brussels: on 20 November,
it first met in Chiefs of Staff session and in Chiefs of Staff session
with Ukraine in the afternoon; on 21 November, it met with the Chiefs
of Staff from the other member countries of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership
Council in the morning (Euro-Atlantic Partnership Military Committee)
and with Russia in the afternoon.

New
Chairman of NATO's Military Committee elected
|
|
General Harald Kujat, German Air Force, German Chief of Staff,
has been elected by the Military Committee -NATO's highest military
authority- to become its Chairman after the June Ministerial meetings
next year.

International
seminar on security in the Mediterranean
|
|
The Fourth Mediterranean Dialogue International Research Seminar was
held at the NATO Defence College in Rome from 21 to 24 November 2001.
This year, the focus was on "Shaping a new security agenda
for the future of regional co-operation in the Mediterranean region".

A new impetus
to NATO-Russia relations
|
|
NATO Secretary General, Lord Robertson has just returned from a
three-day visit to Russia, 21-23 November, where he travelled to
Moscow and Volgograd, in the south of the country. During his trip,
Lord Robertson met with government officials and visited schools
and academic institutions where he gave speeches on the evolution
of NATO-Russia relations.

Proposals
for closer NATO-Russia relations
|
|
Defining a new level of partnership with Russia and exploring ways
of developing this relationship was the purpose of NATO Secretary
General Lord Robertson's visit to Russia, 21-23 November.
