Second Media Advisory

  1. Accreditation
  2. Journalists are reminded that requests for accreditation should be submitted as soon as possible, if they have not already been submitted.

    Late requests may lead to delays in accreditation or may be refused.

    Media will be admitted to all press events in the Conference Centre, to the Media Centre in the Hotel Schweizerhof and to the press conferences in the Haus der Kulturen der Welt only on production of press passes and valid photographic proof of identity.

    Passes can be collected from 10 a.m. on Friday 31 May 1996 at the Media Centre's accreditation desk (Hotel Schweizerhof), Budapester Strasse 21, 10787 Berlin, on production of a valid press card and valid photographic proof of identity.

18:30 Meeting of the Secretary General, Mr. Solana, with the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Mr. Diepgen, at the Rathaus (Jüdenstr./Rathausstr., 10173 Berlin).

The press bus will leave the Media Centre (Hotel Schweizerhof) at 17:30

Monday 3 June 1996 - North Atlantic Council (NAC)

09:30 Opening Session of the NAC in the Conference Area of the Inter-Continental Hotel (Potsdam Room).

Speeches (of approx. 5 minutes each) will be made in the following order:

  • the German Minister for Foreign Affairs
  • the President d'Honneur (Belgian Minister for Foreign Affairs)
  • the Secretary General.

Positions must be taken before 09:00. Media representatives will be escorted in groups from the Media Centre to the Conference Area between 08:20 and 08:50.

On the platform: Pool C.
In the Conference room: Limited coverage, Pool D
09:50 End of the Opening Session. The media are asked to leave the Conference Area.
12.45 Working Session adjourns.
12:50 "Family Portrait" in the Conference Area.

Media representatives will be escorted from the Media Centre to the Conference Area from 12:30.

13:00 Working Lunch. No media coverage
14:45 Working Session resumes. No media coverage

+/- 17:30 Secretary General's news conference in the Auditorium of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (John-Foster-Dulles-Allee 10, 10557 Berlin).

Followed by: National press conferences in the Haus der Kulturen der Welt.

A shuttle bus service will run between the Media Centre and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt.

The first bus will depart at 15:45.
The last bus will leave at 17:15.

Return transport by bus will be available from 18:00 to 19:00.

20:30 Dinner for participants - including Co-operation Partners - hosted by the German Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Klaus Kinkel, in the Martin Gropius Bau (Stresemannstr. 110, 10963 Berlin).

Press bus will leave the Media Centre at 19:30.

Pool F
20:30 Buffet dinner for accredited media representatives, hosted by the Spokesman of the German Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Martin Erdmann, in the Gaststätte Zenner (Alt Treptow 14-17, 12435 Berlin)

Buses will leave the Media Centre from 20:00 and will return from 23:00.

09:30 The Secretary General meets the Federal Chancellor, Dr. Helmut Kohl, at the entrance to the Inter-Continental Hotel. Outside: Open coverage
09:45 Opening of the meeting of the NACC.
  • Welcoming remarks by the Secretary General.
  • Speech by the Federal Chancellor, Dr. Helmut Kohl.

Positions must be taken in the conference building by 09:00. Media representatives will be escorted from the Media Centre to the Conference Area between 08:20 and 08:50.

10:25 Departure of Federal Chancellor, Dr. Helmut Kohl.

End of the opening of the Meeting.

12:15 As the last item of the morning session, the Secretary General will announce the first winner of the Manfred Wörner fellowship.
12:20 Working sessions adjourns.
12:25 Presentation of the Manfred Wörner fellowship. In the conference room: limited coverage. Pool 3.

13:00 Lunch for meeting participants hosted by the German Federal President, Roman Herzog, in Schloss Bellevue (Spreeweg 1, 10557 Berlin) and welcoming address by the Federal President.

15:15 Working Session resumes. No media coverage
+/- 17:00 Working Session ends.
+/- 17:30 Secretary General's news conference in the auditorium of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt.

Followed by: National news conferences in the Haus der Kulturen der Welt.

A shuttle bus service will run between the Media Centre and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. The first bus will depart at 15:45. The last bus will depart at 17:15.

Return bus transport will be available from 18:00 to 19:00.

    Pool passes will be issued at the accreditation desk in the Media Centre (Schweizerhof Hotel) from 15:00 on Sunday 2 June 1996.
