1. This Report was prepared by the two
Consultants hired by NATO, Mrs F. Péquin (France) and Mr. E.A.
Thompson (USA) to implement the trial period for the declassification
and public disclosure of NATO documents. To complete their task in the
time allowed to them, the consultants shared the work and their report
reflects this approach. The Report is drafted part in French and part
in English and has not been translated. Part II of DES(92)1 describes
the period 1949 to 1952 and is published here without the appendices.
Part III, 1952 - 1958 is published without the annexes.
2. This Report, which is a follow up
to DES(92)1, was prepared by the two Consultants hired by NATO, Mrs F.
Péquin (France) and Mr. E.A. Thompson (USA) to implement the trial
period for the declassification and public disclosure of NATO documents.
The two consultants have reviewed all the outstanding document series
concerning the period 1949 - 1958. The Report is drafted part in French
and part in English and has not been translated. These extracts of the
report are published here without the annexes.
3. Following the decision to initiate a second programme
for the public disclosure of NATO Documents, the two consultants previously
hired by the Organisation, Mrs F. Péquin (France) and Mr. E.A.
Thompson (United States) were tasked with reviewing the documents covering
the period 1959 to 1965. Mrs F. Péquin was subsequently replaced
by Miss Annie-France Renaudin. It was decided that the consultants would
have the ability to include documents issued several months after December
1965 if they represented the end of a special project. Moreover, certain
series, particularly military documents issued before 1959 which had not
yet been examined, have in large part, been included in the present report.
The Report is drafted part in French and part in English and has not been
translated. These extracts of the report are published here without the
annexes.
