- The Estonian Minister of Defence, Jüri Luik, visited Estonian
troops participating in SFOR July 7-8. About 75 Estonian soldiers
from the "E" Squadron of the Peacekeeping Centre recently
participated in the NordPol Battle Group (NPBG) of the Multinational
Division North (MND-N).
Luik arrived in Tuzla late in the afternoon July 7, where a delegation
from the Division HQ welcomed him. He then went to the Nordpol Barracks
camp in Doboj, and the battle group guard paid honour to him. Several
meetings took place to update him on the work they had accomplished
and that still to be done by the unit.
next day, the minister and his delegation went to Dannevirke camp
where the Estonian troops are stationed. He attended a military parade
given in his honour by the E Company. During the parade, the minister
presented the first prize award to the Estonian team who won the division
shooting competition July 13. The minister was later shown the mostly
Danish equipment personnel use during their patrols.
In another meeting, all the Estonian personnel gathered around their
minister so he could take into account their expectations. During
the meeting, he expressed his satisfaction for the work done -- a
satisfaction shared by the Division HQ and the battle group leadership.
In the afternoon, Luik accompanied three platoons during their patrols.
His visit ended the next day in Tuzla, where he took off to Kosovo
to meet with other personnel from Estonia.
