Mostar
- Firemen from the Mostar-Ortijes base airport, in MND Southwest,
intervened June 15 to fight a fire in an aluminium fittings and doorfactory,
in a Mostar suburb. The fire had started in brushwoods around the factory
and threatened to reach the warehouses, in which were stocked goods
worth 9 million DM, as well as dwellings in the vicinity
After
a call from the factory owner, the MND headquarters approved airport
firemen to intervene and to give a hand to their local colleagues. Three
VMAS -72trucks, with a 6400 litres of water capacity, shuttled back
and forth all afternoon to fight the flames. The French firemen commanded
by WO2.
Charley
Gorely organised a vehicle rotation so as not to leave the airport without
protection. In the end, a total of 19,000 litres of water were used
by the SFOR firemen to stop the fire. The operation ended shortly before
21:00 hours.
