Another weaponry cache discovered

Plana - In the early morning on June 30, the Spanish Battle
Group (SPBG) performed operation 'Bear'. Troops went searching
for a hidden weapon cache. Plana is a small town in Republika
Srpska, ten kilometres north of Bileca. Multinational Division
Southeast headquarters suspected some weapons might be hidden
somewhere in the village.

Two PIFWCs arrested by SFOR
|

Bratunac and Foca - In the space of two days, Stabilisation
Force (SFOR) elements in Bosnia and Herzegovina detained two
Persons Indicted for War Crimes. Miroslav Deronjic was detained
on 7 July and Radovan Stankovic was detained on 9 July. Both
men are now at the International Criminal Tribunal for former
Yugoslavia.

Air Support Changes to MND-SW

Banja Luka - On 1 July all of Multinational Division Southwest
(MND-SW) underwent a change to the current system of air support
and responsibility. This change significantly impacted the
Netherlands and United Kingdom Battle Groups. Some helicopters
left the theatre, others arrived.

From Duzi to Glamoc

Glamoc - Last month members of the Multinational Control
Sites Unit of MND-SE performed their usual inspections in
an ammunition depot belonging to the 30th Logistic Headquarters
of the Republika Srpska Army in Duzi. The MCSU found several
aviation bombs stored in poor conditions, which is a dangerous
practice.

Ambassador's visit to Canadian contingent in Velika Kladusa
|

Velika Kladusa - A group of ambassadors to Bosnia and Herzegovina
visited Canadian troops stationed in Velika Kladusa in the
hope of gaining a better knowledge about the Canadian participation
in SFOR. For the diplomats the visit also offered a chance
to see the different types of equipment used by these highly
trained soldiers.

Complacency can kill

Gradacac - On July 10 the Commander SFOR and a team of headquarters
personnel paid a visit to the town of Gradacac to observe
current de-mining operations conducted by the Armed Forces
of the Federation. These operations are taking place in the
hope of returning land to former residents in this war-torn
area.

Attenzione, Fuoco!

Glamoc - On July 2, Mortar Coy 'La valanga' (the avalanche)
from the Italian Battle Group (IBG) performed shooting exercises
at Resolute Barbara Range in Glamoc. 'La valanga' Mortar Coy
is one of the 'Tolmezzo' Battalion in Italy, which was the
concept for the formation of the 14th Alpine Regiment, the
base of the IBG.

Isolated . . . but never alone

Mount Gola - Imagine yourself completely isolated living
inside a mountain top for six months with four other people
and only coming down for two 96 hours passes and a trip home
to Canada. This is exactly the scenario for five soldiers
from the Canadian Battle Group as they maintain the radio
re-broadcasting site at Mount Gola.

Working hand in hand

Kovaci - The Turkish Battalion Task Force operates from the
BH Steel factory in Zenica; the factory was the largest of
all in former Yugoslavia and was used as a location for the
movie 'Terminator 2'. The task force operates with a number
of CIMIC teams that undertake a range of tasks in support
of the SFOR mission.

One team three nations

Prijedor - Parachute jumpers from around Bosnia and Herzegovina
descended upon the drop zone of the Prijedor airfield July
12 - 14 to participate in the annual Peter's Day competition.
Calling themselves team Friends, two American SFOR soldiers,
an Irish KFOR troop and a local Serbian man, took part in
the accuracy jump competition.

Srebrenica, seven years after
|

Srebrenica -It's a good guess that nobody knows their way
around the theatre of operations like the 1st Rifle Company
under the command of Capt. Rui Rodrigues. These troops belong
to the Operational Reserve (Ground). The last mission they
performed before being replaced at the end of July was located
near the city of Srebrenica.

Hope on a bicycle

Potoci - On June 29, the Civil-Military Co-operation (CIMC)
team of the French Battle Group (FRBG) co-ordinated an event
to celebrate the arrival of cyclist Patrice Ponza. It was
a long trip for Patrice. From Barcelonnette, in the French
Alps, to Potoci, a small village 20 kilometres north of Mostar,
there are 1,487 kilometres in the total distance. All benefits
go to a young girl named Senadina.

Soldier in the spotlight

Nurse Thorunn Hreggvidsdottir is serving in Sipovo in Multinational
Division Southwest as a civilian from Iceland. She is the
only representative of her country within SFOR. Back in Iceland,
she works at a high-tech University Hospital, and has been
a nurse for the past 25 years. She explains her motivation
for serving in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
