Camp Butmir - The United States celebrated Law Day, May 1.
Canada and a few other nations celebrate it, however, it remains
a uniquely American tradition. It was established in 1944
by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to encourage U.S. citizens
to remember their country's heritage cherishing the rule of
law.

Two Nations, One Mission

Zenica - Turkish and Finnish Civil-Military Co-operation
teams recently conducted joint patrols, as part of a four
day exchange programme, to aid the return process of Displaced
Persons and Refugees. They were not only conducting routine
patrols, but also aiding future return processes.

Co-operative de-mining efforts
|
|
|
Orljani - De-mining is pivotal in the effort to provide a
safe and secure environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina. SFOR
itself does not do any de-mining, this is done by the Armed
Forces in BiH. To this end, SFOR continually trains its engineers,
so that they are able to monitor de-miners from the Entities'
Armies.

COMSFOR hosts 37th JMC

Camp Butmir - The Joint Military Commission serves as the
central body for the Armed Forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina
in order to ensure compliance with the General Framework Agreement
for Peace. SFOR's Joint Military Affairs section hosted the
37th Joint Military Commission, April 25.

Emerald Expedition: a gem of a challenge

Bugojno - Wet, windy and winding are the conditions that
approximately 300 SFOR military personnel from eight different
nations stationed throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina braved
on April 17 during Expedition Emerald. The Expedition took
place in Multinational Division Southwest on what is known
as route Emerald.

Sarajevo - Nearly 30 Ambassadors visited returnee sites throughout
Bosnia and Herzegovina April 30. The visits were a joint effort
between SFOR, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
(UNHCR) and the Office of the High Representative. The event
was carefully planned by the three organisations in order
to achieve the objective.

Some key points for a better understanding

Sarajevo - The last census in this country, as well as in
the other Republics, dates back to 1991. At that time, there
were roughly 4.2 million inhabitants in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After almost four years of war, at the end of 1995, more than
the half of them, that is to say 2.2 million, were elsewhere
other than in their pre-war homes.

Ambassadors in MND-SE

Ogleceva - The former inhabitants of Ogleceva officially
returned in the autumn of 2000 with the aid of tents and domestic
items from the UNHCR. By December 2000, UNHCR had reconstructed
overnight accommodation- one, two-storey communal house- for
the heads of 15 households.

Ambassadors in MND-SW

MND-SW - As part of the fifth trip organised by the OHR,
UNHCR and SFOR, a delegation of ambassadors travelled to the
returnee sites of Orahova, belonging to the municipality of
Gradiska, and on the Vlasic plateau, a mountainous chain extending
over 500 square kilometres north of Travnik.

Soldier raises money for village
school
|

Ocevlja - Due to its location, between Sarajevo Canton and
Tuzla Canton, the village, which was home to Bosniacs, Bosnian-Croats
and Bosnian-Serb before the war, was often overlooked for
humanitarian aid. The schools are in disrepair, the teachers
do not have adequate supplies and the children need a healthy
environment to learn.

Bravenik - Exercise "Joint Resolve XXVI" took place
in Multinational Division Southeast April 22 - 28. The main
event occurred April 26, with an evacuation exercise of members
of the International Community. French, German, Spanish, Portuguese
and US troops were involved.

Illegal ammunitions' cache discovered
|

Vrapcici - The French Battle Group seized 50 tonnes of ammunition,
April 24. The ammunition was found in an underground cellar
on industrial premises in the area of Vrapcici, near Mostar.
A telephone call provided MND-SE with the right information.

a very busy and friendly man working at his workstation. He
is the Lieutenant Commander of the Argentinean Navy Infantry
(Marines) Carlos Esteban Buen. Buen is the kind of person
who never loses his smile even in the worst circumstances.
