Officials discuss Hercegovacka Banka operation
 

Sarajevo - Under cover of darkness early April 18, SFOR personnel played an integral role in yet another operation involving the bank believed to be connected with the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ). An OHR spokesperson and Public Information Office chief addressed the issue and answered questions from local media during a press conference later that day.

Worrying mortar-fins
 

Butmir - When a soldier in Camp Butmir saw what could be a UXO, he did the right thing and reported it in to the HQ Commandant and Military Police. The tail of a 120-mm. mortar grenade was sticking out of the ground, and there was no way to determine if it was just the tail or an unexploded grenade.

Maoca - About 10 Turkish engineers of the battalion based in Zenica and 18 American engineers of Company C, 648th Engineers Battalion, from Eagle Base worked hard together for three days to re-deck Maoca bridge, on Acorn road between Zavidovici and Olovo.

Judge issues decision in Dobrinja arbitration matter
 

Sarajevo - After two months of hearings and reviewing many documents, the Irish judge appointed over the Dobrinja arbitration matter has made his decision. Justice Diarmuid Sheridan announced his ruling to dozens of local journalists and interested members of the International Community at a press conference held April 24.

Refugees visits near Barbara Range
 

Glamoc - About 150 displaced persons and refugees (DPREs) visited their properties April 25-27 on the boundary of the Resolute Barbara Range, near Glamoc. SFOR assisted UNHCR in this operation. These visits will restore rights to numerous owners.

Italian CIMIC focus on schools
 

Sarajevo - Improvements to three schools in Ilijas (Canton Sarajevo, Federation) and Mokro (Republika Srpska) have been completed in last two weeks with funds from the European Community and other private funds from Italy in the amount of 171,000 KM.

Goodbye Jussi!
 

Doboj - A ceremony was held April 12 at the Nordpol Battle Group (NPBG) Headquarters to say goodbye to the 120 men from the Finnish contingent. Most of them will fly back home, but a few will move to Eagle Base as part of the MND-N CIMIC battalion.

First visits to Potocari
 

Potocari - About 250 Bosniac displaced persons and refugees (DPRE) visited for the first time since the war their village of Potocari, near Srebrenica. The recent opening of the American base Camp Connor, near Bratunac, helped United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to perform this operation.

Spanish Battle Group Speeds Up
 

Mostar - "Adventure Express / Dynamic Response 2001" is under way. It runs May 1-10 in the Balkans, including Kosovo, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina. This big effort includes the deployment of the Strategic Reserve Forces (reinforcing troops from NATO and other contributing nations). In preparation for it, training activities have been increased in the whole theatre.

Mostar - In the early morning of April 18, a second operation in the main office of Hercegovacka Banka was held. Its aim was to collect evidentiary material to complete the on-going investigation about the bank's illegal activities, and to provide the Provisional Administrator Toby Robinson all the documentation she required in order to do her job.

Mostar - A command post exercise (CPX) took place in Mostar Ortijes, the headquarters of Salamander Division in Multinational Division - Southeast. The goal of the exercise was the training of the command, control and communications (C3) on the divisional level, as well as reaction capability when faced with different situations.

Pvt Rikke Munkgaard is a woman, a tough one. So, don't be caught by her. Back from a patrol in Zepce (a Bosnian-Croat pocket in canton 4) in her Leopard 1 A5 tank, she affirms her choice with strength. At 25 years old, she's one of the rare women who are gunners in the Danish army.
