Jean Michel Chereau

Following training at the Saint-Cyr military academy, General Chereau was selected to serve in the Marine Infantry. Following a number of varied appointments, which included operational engagements in Lebanon and Chad, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 1990. From 1991 to 1993 he was head of operations and training of the 1st airborne marine infantry regiment in Bayonne, and participated in 2 operations in Somalia and Rwanda. From 1993 to 1994 he was assigned to the special air force headquarters as a staff officer. Promoted to Colonel in 1994, he subsequently commanded the 1st airborne marine infantry regiment from 1994 to 1996 and participated in operations in BiH.
In 1996, General Chereau was appointed Chief of Staff of the French Armed Forces in Djibouti. In 1998, he was again assigned to the special air force headquarters as chief of operations. He participated to the entry operations in Kosovo in 1999.
Following two senior intelligence appointments, was promoted to Brigadier in 2003 and is now serving with SFOR as the Commander of the Multi-National Task Force (South East) in BiH.
General Chereau is married and is father of 3 children. He has a number of decorations:
