High level ADN representatives meet in Brussels


High Level Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation meeting held in Brussels

Security policy directors and other senior officials from NRC capitals convened in Brussels on 16 January for a reinforced NRC Arms Control, Disarmament and Non Proliferation (NRC(ADN)) Working Group meeting.

Their discussion covered a wide range of current developments in the field of arms control, disarmament and non proliferation. The distinguished participants exchanged views on issues related to situation in Syria and in Iran as well as their perspective on such topics as the Non Proliferation Treaty review cycle (including establishing a WMD-free-zone in the Middle East), security of outer space activities, conventional arms control in Europe, strategic stability issues, nuclear disarmament, missile defence, the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and the Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty, Nuclear Security Summit, Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention and others.

The officials also took stock of the NRC(ADN) work in 2013, noting the substantive exchanges on a range of important issues in the field of Arms Control, Disarmament and Non Proliferation.

Looking forward to the agenda for the year ahead, NRC nations spoke about their priorities in the field, and discussed key points to be addressed in the NRC(ADN) Working Group’s Programme of Work for 2014.
